Self-serve frozen yogurt is not a brand new concept.
But it is in our kudzu-covered corner of the world.
Chad and I spied Sweet Frog on a weekend jaunt to the town nearest us bearing more than a Wal-Mart and made a mental note: There is FROZEN YOGURT nearby!!!
In days gone by, my sister and I used to make special trips to TCBY… until they removed themselves from our neighborhood (rude.).
Since then frozen yogurt has been my dessert unicorn.
It has existed only in theory… and on rare occassions in my local grocery store (RARE.).
Underneath the fruit in my cup you will find the flavors of Country Vanilla, Georgia Peach, Chocolate, Strawberry, and Raspberry Pomegranate (soooooo good; it’s probably my favorite). I get a little crazy with the fruit toppings: strawberries, BLACKBERRIES, and blueberries. Granola gave me some crunch. I added a square of poundcake just because I could. I was totally pleased with my masterpiece.
I am not going to pretend to know what exactly is in Chad’s extra super duper large cup… I know I spied him reaching for chocolate, peanut butter, and cappuccino. I lost track of him after that. There’s a lot of candy having a party on Chad’s frozen yogurt with some strawberries and hot fudge. He totally didn’t notice the girl’s eyes bulge when he weighed it at the cash register (one day I will attempt to photograph the sheer volume of food this man consumes in a day… ).
We sat in the sunshine on the back of the car savoring our unicorn treats.
It reminded me of Rainbow Brite.
This is what a happy weekend looks like.
Also there is a flavor called Maple Bacon Donut. True story.

Oh wow! These look so yummy! Frozen yoghurt isn't really a big thing in the UK, (apart from Ben & Jerry's which is everywhere!) I that is a shame! I might just have to have a go at making my own :-)

If you figure out how to make frozen yogurt at home PUH-LEEZ post it!!! I've seen sherbet and sorbet and ice cream (found a cheesecake ice cream recipe the other day... helloooooo!!!) but never frozen yogurt. The yogurt shown in the photos is soft serve, but the hard scoops are just as good. I like to top it with homemade granola :)

these look yummy (I'd definitely be on Chad's side of the fence with everything sweet and sickly I could lay my hands on though!) We don't really get frozen yoghurt, but ice cream season is well and truly here, and also makes a happy weekend! So glad you found somewhere to fulfill your frozen yog needs! Once, I went to the supermarket while my sister and I were going through a Ben and jerry's phase (ok, it wasn't so much a phase - who doesn't love B and J's?!) Anyway, I was charged with the task of picking up a tub of Phish Food. which I did. Only to get it home, unpack the shopping and find that - horror of horrors, I'd only gone and picked up Phish Food frozen yoghurt instead of ice cream :O We decided to make the best of it and force it down, and were very pleased to find that it tasted just as good!

We have a Ben and Jerry's ice cream shop (imagine brownies and waffle cones topped with huge scoops of your favorie Ben and Jerry's flavors) in the nearest big city (still 50 miles from here) and I had no idea they had frozen yogurt!!! I'm gonna scope out this situation next time I'm in the grocery store. I would love to go the crazy candy route with Chad, but he has a freaky metabolism that processes sugar and chocolate as fast as he can eat it. I am not that fortunate; it goes straight to my hips (and they don't need any extra right now... it's bathing suit season!!!). I've taken to drowning that sorrow in blackberries :)

Um...is the bottom picture yours? I don't see any chocolate on there.
Also, did you try the maple bacon donut flavor? Kiefer did. He wasn't a fan.

Haha the bottom picture is mine from the first time we went; top photo is from our next venture when I was slightly more pro. The chocolate is carefully concealed underneath the fruit. Didn't try the maple bacon donut flavor. Glad someone investigated that for me! Noted.

If it wasn't such a haul to get there it would be happy everyday.
